Newborn photography is a beautiful way to capture the tiny details of your baby's first weeks of life. However, planning a shoot with a baby under a month old can feel intimidating. Top 5 Newborn Session Tips
1. Keep the Room Temperature Warm
Newborn babies cannot regulate their body temperature well, especially when swaddled in lightweight fabrics or posed without clothes. We heat our studio space to around 26-28°C to ensure the baby remains warm, content, and sleepy throughout the styling setups.
2. Schedule Feeding Around the Shoot
A well-fed baby is a happy, sleeping baby. We recommend feeding your newborn right before you travel to the studio, or immediately upon arrival. Sleepy babies are much easier to transition into sweet, curled-up poses.
3. Embrace Flexibility & Patience
Newborn sessions require plenty of time. We never rush. We allocate up to 3 hours for newborn shoots to allow ample breaks for feeding, diaper changes, and soothing. If your baby cries or needs comfort, we pause and wait patiently.
4. Safety First in Posing
Always prioritize safety. Many complex newborn poses you see online are actually "composites" (multiple photos merged in Photoshop). We ensure a spotting parent or assistant is always within arm's reach of the baby, and we never pose newborns in unstable containers.
5. Simple Styling & Props
Less is often more. We use clean, organic materials, neutral-colored wraps, and soft wool layers that highlight the baby's natural skin tones and tiny features, rather than overshadowing them with bright, busy props.
